Susan Bodtke, MD, is board-certified in both family medicine and hospice and palliative medicine, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a certified hospice medical director. She completed her fellowship training at the Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice. Currently, she is the hospice medical director for Scripps Hospice in San Diego, California. In 2012, she edited Patty Wu’s Palliative Medicine Pocket Companion, second edition. Kathy Ligon, MD, is board-certified in both internal medicine and hospice and palliative medicine, and she is also trained in Eastern medicine. She completed fellowship training at the Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice. Currently, she is a hospice medical director at Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as well as a palliative medicine consultant in the hospital, clinic, and home settings. I just recently started Hospice and was feeling unsure of my practice as it is so different from my prior work in the hospital. This book has helped me close that gap. It has explanations of typical issues seen, interventions, and pearls of care with focus on how to educate family members. A lot of what I read in this book I have heard from my preceptors as well so I know it is spot on. I covered it in a clear protective cover to keep it nice since I use it so much and I bring it with me in my supply bag to each of my patients homes. Definitely worth the purchase.

I love this book. I am a hospice NP and I use it daily for quick references. I highly recommend it to anyone getting into the hospice field. MD, NP, PA, or RN. It had a wealth of information. You won't be disappointed.

This is a succinct handbook and guide. I especially love the inclusion of research information ! I use mine daily-especially helpful for difficult to manage symptoms!!

Sadly disappointed. The font is tiny, about 7-8 points, and light, that this book isn't practical for me to use. I wish I had purchased the kindle version, but I don't want to spend another $52.

Concise, well written. Great pocket reference and study guide for CHPN exam.

Font is too small in the regular book format. I used this in addition to the study guide and did well on the CHPN exam. I have been using it for work and have learned many new tricks! I've been a hospice nurse for 10 years. I wish I had this sooner.

Hard to find good information on Hospice. This is the book that answers many questions with simple to understand answers.

Grade 2-5-Sneed has chosen 15 tales to retell and illustrate. The art, done in watercolor, colored pencil, and acrylic, is a standout. The animals, while realistically proportioned, are endowed with the character and personality that connect them to the human foibles that the tales illuminate. The palette is both varied and vibrant, and the artist has posed his creatures in a range of inventive yet possible positions. The text, however, is not as impressive. The use of colloquialisms in the dialogue-"golly," "holy cow," etc.-seems at odds with the more formal language of the narratives. Libraries who have invested in Jerry Pinkney's Aesop's Fables (SeaStar, 2000), which features 60 tales and has a better meld of text and illustration, may consider this an additional purchase.

K-Gr. 3. Aesop's fables have been retold for centuries, and there's no end in sight. Sneed offers 15 retellings (the sixteenth, the "Tortoise and the Hare," is wordless) in sometimes jarringly contemporary language but keeps the classic morals at the end of each. The lazy grasshopper tells the ants to "Take a load off," and the rooster soon to become the eagle's lunch cries, "What?! Nobody wants a piece of me?" Each fable is a double-page, full-bleed spread, and the text is brief, a few paragraphs at most. Watercolor, colored pencil, and acrylic paintings are fully realized; the animals are depicted in surreal detail but with exaggeratedly human expressions. Note the supercilious grin on the face of the fox, who is flattering the crow into dropping the cheese in its beak. Not as elegant as Doris Orgel's The Lion and the Mouse and Other Aesop's Fables (2000) but not as serious either. GraceAnne DeCandido
